Merry Christmas!!

Wow. I have had several posts lying around in my head and never posted them. Mostly, I have pictures to share.

With Lidia's sister's car's help, we got a tall, even bushy, and cheap Christmas tree. Lidia picked out this tree for us that cost us about $12USD. On the street corners, this kind of tree was going for at least $35-60. We got a tree!! She was a heavy one to bring home.

This last Monday, the gingerbread house competition I organized commenced. It wasn't a huge turnout, but the classes that participated said they really enjoyed themselves.

Then this last Wednesday, I was asked to organize a Christmas party for the students at school. We sang songs, had a humming song mix-up, and decorated human trees. That was a good time.

Just after that, I met my wonderful man at the airport and gave me a big fat hug and kiss at the airport. We celebrated Christmas together with seven other people at my place. We had a huge slumber party afterwards as public transport wasn't working and ended celebrations with a wonderful waffle breakfast. Thanks, Erin!

06-1-211-0136

A day or two ago I received a phone call in the middle of my class. Of course, I didn't answer it, my phone was on silent and I only noticed my phone light up.

Today, I decided to call the number to see who it was. This was an interesting task; I wasn't successful. Here's an abbreviated conversation with absolutely no exaggeration.

-Jo napot kivanok (Good day)
-Hi. Beszelsz angolul? (Do you speak English?)
-hold one moment please...

waiting

-Yes, how can I help you?
-Yes, someone called me yesterday and I was curious what was needed.
-Uh-huh, and who called you?
-Ah! That's exactly it. I don't know.
-This is a school.
-Ok. Great, I was curious who called me.
-Yes. What is his name?
-(I start laughing) No. I don't know. That's why I am calling.
-Well, I am happy you are happy, but I can't help you until you tell me who you're looking for.
-I'm sorry. I think you misunderstood me. Someone called me yesterday and I was calling back to see who called.
-(Disregarding what I had just said) Are you looking for a job?
-What? No. What school is this?
-(Again, disregarding my question) We are looking for an English lektor.
-Ah! Someone must have called me about a teacher. I work with ESI.
-(I think she can't hear me) This is a school.
-Oh, yes. Thank you. Good bye.
-Good bye.

(The phone number is fictional in order to protect the school)

Gingerbread house

My school has asked me to put together a Christmas program for the students. I tried to organize a gingerbread house competition last year, but I didn't have enough time. So today, I spent my day making a gingerbread house to desperately have enough time to organize, promote, and encourage others to participate in the first annual gingerbread house competition. This is my first gingerbread house I have made and also the first I have ever decorated in my life.

What do you think?

Visitors

My boss came for a visit.

Soomi's parents came for a visit at the same time. I tried new Korean foods. It was good having a mom around:-)

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was wonderful and relaxing. It was so so good. The restaurant prepared an awesome feast. We had two whole turkeys (in years past, we've had only cooked parts of the turkey) and they weighed 12 and 18 kilos (roughly about 24 and 36 pounds)!!!

I made friends with Johnny.

Some of us *ah-hem* liked Johnny so much, we tried to act like him.
Here's the beautiful Hungary and Slovakia team that I celebrated with.

My stress release a few saturdays ago.

Egg Nog

Soomi and I tried our hand at our first egg nog. It's now waiting in the fridge. While we were working on that, i mixed up some ginger cookies. Those also have to wait...all night! Good things come to those who wait, right?
